Keo Watson takes Phil Irving honours at the 27th International Island Classic with a perfect score

The Phil Irving Trophy, named in honour of the Australia engineer is awarded to the rider who accrues the most points outside the International Challenge throughout the weekend.

On triple-duties, Watson competed in the 250 New Era Production, 500 Forgotten Era and 350 Forgotten Era classes, however only the two highest point scoring classes are used in calculating the overall points score.

The 23-year-old put on a flawless performance in the 500 Forgotten Era and 250 New Era Production classes, taking five wins in the 500 Forgotten Era class on his 1981 Yamaha and five wins in the 250cc New Era Production class via his 1990 Honda, finishing the weekend on a perfect 250 points and securing his first win of the acclaimed trophy.

Five riders have won the trophy twice since its inception in 1994; however, it is Russell Fairbairn who holds the record for the most wins with five (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008).

Watson joins an elite class of previous winners with honours board for the Phil Irving trophy a who’s who racing, including Wayne Gardner, Ginger Molloy and Cameron Donald.
